A subdomain is part of a web address which is under the main domain, for example name.example.com. From a technical perspective, even in www.example.com the "www" element is a subdomain because the fully qualified domain name is only "example.com". Each subdomain could have its own website and records and can also be hosted through a different provider if you need to use a feature that isn't provided by your current service provider. An illustration for using a subdomain is if you have a business site along with an online store under a subdomain where clients can purchase your products. You can even have a forum in which they can talk about the products and by employing subdomains as an alternative to subfolders you'll avoid any probability of all websites going down if you perform maintenance, or update one of the site scripts. Keeping your websites separated is less risky in the case of a script security breach.

Subdomains in Shared Hosting

Every single shared hosting plan we provide will enable you to create many subdomains with no more than a few clicks in your website hosting CP. They will all be listed in the section in which you create them and grouped under the main domain for more convenience, so that you're able to very easily keep track of every one of them. Additionally, you can access many functions for any of the subdomains through right-click context menus - as an example, you can view or edit their DNS records, access the site files, plus much more. While creating a new subdomain, you are also going to have a number of options that you can choose from - define the default access folder, set customized error pages, activate FrontPage Extensions or choose if the subdomain will use a shared or a dedicated IP address. How many subdomains you will have is 100 % up to you as we haven't limited this feature for any of our packages.
